The LoRa Alliance Smart Water & Energy Working Group invites you to an exclusive webinar on OMS over LoRaWAN, taking place on April 22nd at 3 PM CET.

This session will explore how OMS (Open Metering System), the widely adopted standard for multi-utility metering, can be seamlessly integrated with LoRaWAN to enable cost-efficient, long-range, and interoperable smart metering solutions.

What to Expect

  • Introduction to OMS Over LoRaWAN – Olivier Hersent, CEO of Actility will discuss discuss the evolution from wireless networks dedicated solely to metering towards comprehensive horizontal smart city networks, highlighting the significant advantages for municipalities and utilities. You will learn how the LoRa Alliance chose to standardize existing network profiles rather than creating new protocols, and how advanced proprietary techniques, such as battery-powered relays or walk-by methods, have recently been standardized.
  • Presentation of OMS and M-Bus – Palle Haderslev from Device Labs will introduce the OMS and M-Bus protocols, extensively used in water metering. You will discover how these protocols can be efficiently transported over LoRaWAN by utilizing the M-Bus Adaptation Layer (MBAL), in alignment with the guidelines specified in OMS Technical Report 06. He will also demonstrate uplink transmission, decoding frames interfaced with Actility’s ThingPark LNS.
  • OMS over LoRaWAN: Protocols, Security & Certification – Ahmed Kasttet from Birdz will discuss the benefits of OMS over LoRaWAN, covering the protocol stack, encryption, security, and network architecture. He will also provide insights into OMS TR-06 certification and upcoming developments, highlighting the complementarity and differences between M-Bus and OMS.
  • The Role of LoRaWAN in Smart Metering – Olivier Hersent will conclude by outlining how Walk-by/Drive-by, Relay, and fixed infrastructure wireless technologies can be seamlessly integrated into advanced, multi-service IoT networks. Additionally, he will explore how municipalities can maximize their investments in upcoming smart-building projects to densify and extend network coverage through LoRaWAN roaming.

This webinar is designed for utilities, metering professionals, and IoT innovators looking to implement OMS-based smart metering with the flexibility of LoRaWAN. Join us to discover the future of smart metering with OMS over LoRaWAN!

Palle Haderslev

With a small team of experienced colleagues I founded DeviceLab ApS in 2019, dedicated to solve the time consuming task of decrypting and decoding the raw telegrams transmitted by wM-bus and OMS compliant meters and sensors. We are offering server and desktop software for device payload extraction, allowing you to assign your R&D resources to features more urgently requested by your customers.

LoRa Alliance

The LoRa Alliance is an open, non-profit association of members that believes the Internet of Things era is now. It was initiated by industry leaders with a mission to standardize Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) being deployed around the world to enable Internet of Things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M), smart cities, and industrial applications. The Alliance members collaborate to drive the global success of the LoRa protocol (LoRaWAN) by sharing knowledge and experience to guarantee interoperability between operators in one open global standard.
